Term 2 Karakia/Whakatauki and Waiata
Karakia/Whakatauki
Hutia te rito o te harakeke
Kei whea, te komako e ko
Ki mai ki ahau
He aha te mea nui o tenei ao
Maku e ki atu
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
When the heart is torn from the flaxbush
Where will the bellbird sing?
You will ask me what is the greatest thing on Earth
My reply is, it is people, it is people, it is people.
Waiata
Whakataka te hau ki te uru
Whakataka te hau ki te tonga
Kia mākinakina ki uta
Kia mātaratara ki tai
E hī ake ana te atākura
He tio, he huka, he hauhu
Tihei Mauri ora
Cease the winds from the west
Cease the winds from the south
Let the breeze blow over the land
Let the breeze blow over the ocean
Let the red-tipped dawn come with a sharpened air.
A touch of frost, a promise of a glorious day

Greetings in Te Reo Māori
We are learning different ways to greet one another in Te Reo Māori
This waiata is called Tēna Koe - Hello to One
Here is another Waiata that teaches us the names of colours, numbers and weather.
Songs we are learning: Herman the Worm and Lava
We have learnt a fun song called Herman the Worm. We are practicing it so we can sing it to the whole school in assembly in Week 3.
Here it is for you to watch and sing along.

Our first waiata this term is E hara i te mea
E hara i te mea
Nō nāianei te aroha
Nō nga tūpuna
I Tuku iho, i tuku iho
Simply translated it means:
Not the thing of recent times, is love but by the ancestors it has been passed down, passed down

We are starting the day with Room 18 in our learning hub with a Karakia and Waiata. The karakia is:
Kia hora te marino
Kia whakapapa pounamu te moana
Hei huarai mā tātou i te rangi nei
Aroha atu, aroha mai
Tātou i a tātou katoa
Hui e, Taike e
May peace be widespread
May the sea be like greenstone
A pathway for us all this day
Give love, receive love
Let us show respect for each other
Bind together!
